This week, we head to Centennial, Colorado, to show you a holiday lighting display that, we think, could be seen from space. At the very least, it is a sure way for Santa in his sleigh to spot Joe Stricker and his family as he rounds the globe on Christmas Eve.
We love everything about Joe Stricker’s exuberant display but, we admit, he had us on the opening shot of his video, which was taken from a drone high above his home. (Not to mention his great use of AtmosFX Digital Decorations Santa’s Workshop and Night Before Christmas!)
Joe is another one of those decorating superstars that goes all-out for Halloween, and then backs it up with an amazing, full-bore Christmas display. He starts taking down his Halloween decorations on Halloween night, usually taking him from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. “Then within a day or two we are making the swap from Halloween to Christmas,” Joe says. “I spend every night and weekend until Thanksgiving night perfecting our Christmas display.”
All told, he says it takes about 80 hours to get it his holiday display ready. Then, on Thanksgiving night, he flips the switch. He’s been doing it for years.
In 2015, his home won Denver Post's Best Holiday Display – and it is easy to see why. Joe says he fires-up the display from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every night through New Year’s, and his household will get thousands of people rolling by to see the lights. Even limousines and party buses. “It’s like a block party in front of our house every Friday and Saturday night during December,” Joe says.
If this weren’t enough, Joe makes sure his well-deserved reputation is put to good use. Each year, he makes sure to add extra goodies on a given night, like cookies, hot chocolate, and even a REAL Santa. Any and all donations on this special night go to their local school, Franklin Elementary. This year, the event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23.
