Great Ways to Display ‘UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts’

Ever since UnLiving Portraits Digital Decoration Collection was released nearly a decade ago, the gallery of feuding family members has been a favorite among digital decorators. The combination of gentle – and sometimes funny – horror disguised as a collection of old family portraits certainly strikes a chord with not just Halloween fans, but also pranksters who love to use the startle scares on unsuspecting audiences.

It seems like every notable gallery exhibition takes years to come together, so perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that a NEW collection of phantasmic portraits is just now here. But we believe you’ll think the wait was worth it for AtmosFX’s newest digital decoration collection, UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts.

How best to exhibit these strange souls? We have a few suggestions for you.

The Basics

UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts is unique in that it takes the three characters from Halloween Hosts Digital Decoration Collection – the Brooding Butler, the Fortune Teller and the Bewitching Bride – and places them in a format similar to that in the popular UnLiving Portraits.

To be sure, there are countless ways you can decorate with UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts without having to purchase either UnLiving Portraits or Halloween Hosts. The animated portraits create so many unique and easy ways to to decorate, including:

  • Play them on your favorite surface, (such as TVs, tablets, digital photo frames, or your old smart phone), and then listen to your Halloween party guests repeatedly ask you “how did you do that”?
  • Set up a Sprite Motion Sensor to instantly transform your Halloween Hosts from still-life to UnLiving Portraits, and surprise your family and friends!
  • Mix your portraits together with decorations from Halloween Hosts throughout your haunt to amaze your trick-or-treaters with familiar faces popping up in unexpected places.
  • Host your own ghoulish gallery opening with the original UnLiving Portraits and debut your latest additions to the permanent collection with all 3 of the Halloween Hosts

Displaying on a Wall

The easiest way to display UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts is by simply projecting the digital decoration on any wall. Each of the three characters are formatted vertically and situated in a digital frame. Pick a wall and you will instantly have a mysterious moving portrait of any of the three characters from Halloween Hosts. Or, select the trio mode and you will have all three characters digitally displayed on your wall – oh, how they engage with each other!

If you already display UnLiving Portraits on your wall, you can add UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts to your playlist and you’ll have more ghoulish gallery items for others to view on your wall. And don’t forget that the Possessed Portrait individual decoration from Paranormal Passage Digital Decoration Collection also features framed portraits, which gives you even more options.

Displaying on a TV, Monitor or Tablet

UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts also works great on a TV, computer monitor or tablet. Just like when you display this digital decoration on the wall, each character has a digital frame that helps create the illusion of a piece of art. This works especially great on tablets, which can be placed on a countertop amongst other framed photos to really surprise a view. Televisions too, especially if it is mounted on the wall and can be adjusted to hang vertically.

Just like its predecessor, UnLiving Portraits, this new digital decoration also offers a version that does NOT include the digital frame. This is great for those of you that really want to take UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts to the next level by building (or adding) your own picture frame. A physical frame disguises your TV, monitor or tablet, which really helps to trick the viewer that they are looking at a static painting. We’ve even seen people build an entire false wall to completely camouflage their television! There are countless tutorials on the internet to help you do so, and we have some great articles on how to do this in the AtmosFAN Hall of Fame, too. Like this one!

Display on Windows, Too

Just because these digital decorations are so often displayed on walls and TVs doesn’t mean you cannot do so in your window. UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts comes with a display mode that includes old-fashion wallpaper on which these digital portraits hang. That means any window can become a portrait gallery, large or small. Smaller vertical windows are perfect for a singular portrait, and the trio mode – where all three portraits talk to each other – is especially effective in large windows at the front of the house.

Creating Startle Scares

One reason UnLiving Portraits created such a dedicated following was because the startle scares could be triggered to give the viewer a real jolt. The same goes for UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts. Whether you are projecting onto your wall, or building an elaborate frame for your television, UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts contains an assortment of startle scares that you can trigger at the perfect time.

The Sprite Media Player with Motion Sensor is especially good for this. Simply load up your files onto a USB drive, plug into your projector and monitor, and discreetly place the motion sensor in a spot near the “painting.” When someone comes close to view these strange portraits, the sensor will trigger quite a surprise. Where Else Can You Use it?

Where you can use UnLiving Portraits: Halloween Hosts is only limited by your imagination. Having a Halloween party? Frame a small tablet or use a digital picture frame and place it near the punchbowl – just make sure to have a towel ready to clean up the mess! Or put that same frame near the trick-or-treat bowl on Halloween night. For those who like to create miniature haunted houses for display, load up this digital decoration onto a pico projector and play it on an interior wall. Any place is fair game!
